Having recently been approved to offer a degree apprenticeship in Creative Digital Design, York St John University needed to develop a full curriculum and programme materials ready for their first intake. Over four-months, I developed this curriculum from the initial outlines in programme and module specifications to align with the requirements of the apprenticeship standard. My programme ensures that apprentices will be able develop competencies in the knowledge, skills, and behaviours for the apprenticeship and achieve the learning outcomes of the degree.
I produced syllabuses for all three years (levels) of the degree apprenticeship including all aspects covered by the apprenticeship standard and additional topics relevant to contemporary design practice including sustainability, social responsibility, immersive technology, and the responsible use of AI. I developed the programme in consultation with the design academic team, technical/workshops team, and apprenticeship team to ensure it made use of existing knowledge and resources within the University and followed best practice in delivering apprenticeships. Deliverables included syllabuses for all three years, the programme handbook, virtual learning environment materials including all module pages for year one, example assignment briefs, and input into marketing and promotion materials.
